Job application tracker: closing dates, reference numbers and follow-ups

Keep every post you apply for in one list, with the reference number, closing date and status. It shows what closes soon and when to follow up, and stays in this browser.

This tool runs only in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. No signup. Your work stays in this browser until you delete it.

Add the jobs you apply for and set a follow-up date. What needs chasing shows here.

For example: call HR on Monday

When you apply through the Public Service Vacancy Circular, you can have ten applications open with ten different references, and you may not hear back for months. Circular 39 alone, issued on 30 October 2026, has closing dates from 13 to 17 November for many posts. Write each one down when you apply, so that when a call comes you know which post it's about.

What should I record?

The post and employer, the reference number, the closing date, the day you applied and how you sent it. Add the follow-up date. Save the advert as a PDF too, because it can disappear from the portal after the closing date, and you'll need the duties to prepare for an interview.

When will I know if I wasn't successful?

Most adverts tell you, and it varies. Set your follow-up date from your advert.

  • SAPS trainee advert: no contact within 3 months of closing means you weren't successful
  • Eastern Cape Department of Education, in Circular 39: no contact within 6 months
  • Many others only say they'll write to shortlisted people, so don't wait: keep applying

When does the next circular come out?

The DPSA year programme for 2026 lists these publication dates: 6, 13, 20 and 27 November, and 4 December. The circular says it's published weekly except during December. We haven't seen the 2027 dates yet, so check the DPSA page in January.

What happens to my list?

It stays in this browser on this device. If you clear your browsing data, it's gone, and it won't follow you to another phone. Use the download button now and then to keep a copy you can open in a spreadsheet.

Questions people ask

Can I use one Z83 for several posts?

No. Each post needs its own Z83 with its own reference number, so give each post its own row here too.

Should I phone to follow up on a government post?

You can use the enquiries number in the advert to ask a short question, but many departments only contact shortlisted people. Don't pay anyone who offers to check on your application.

Does anyone else see my list?

No. Nothing goes to us or anyone else. There's no account and no signup.
