Check your CV against a job advert: free word check for South Africa

Paste the advert and your CV, and we'll show which of the advert's main words your CV already has and which it doesn't. It's a word check, not a prediction of whether you'll get the job.

This tool runs only in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. No signup.

Paste both texts to see which words from the advert your CV has and which it doesn't.

Take a real advert from Circular 39 of 2026: a Grade 12 admin clerk post at the Compensation Fund that names the Public Service Act, customer service, Batho Pele principles and computer literacy. If those words aren't on your CV and they're true of you, add them. A panel going through a pile of forms can only credit what it can see.

How do I use the result?

Look at the missing words first. For each one, ask if it's true of you. If it is, add it where you did that work, in a real sentence: captured supplier invoices on Excel beats a long list of skills. If it isn't true, leave it out and learn it for the next post.

Why is there no score out of 100?

A score would pretend to know something it doesn't. We can count words, but we can't judge your experience or a recruiter's view of you. It tells you how many main words it found, and that's all it can honestly say.

What should I check beyond the words?

In government adverts, the minimum requirements come first: the NQF level, the years of experience, the licence and any registration. If you don't meet one, a perfect word match won't help. Also check the closing date and the reference number, and make sure the post is really open on the official site.

Questions people ask

Is my CV uploaded anywhere?

No. The check runs on your own phone or computer. The CV and advert you paste aren't stored, so they're gone when you close the page.

Should I copy the whole advert into my CV?

No. Recruiters notice, and it says nothing about you. Use the advert's words only where they honestly describe what you did.

Does it work for adverts in the Public Service Vacancy Circular?

Yes. Copy the requirements and duties of your post from the circular PDF. Leave out the department's long general notes, because they'll add words that aren't about the job.
